Heart
disease is very common in diabetes.
Coronary Heart Disease or Heart
Attack:
High glucose can lead to narrowing in the coronary arteries
which supply blood to the heart. When such a major blood
vessel is blocked, blood flow to the heart is stopped,
causing heart attack. Generally there is heaviness or
pain in the chest pain during heart attack, but diabetic
patients can have a fatal heart attack without the warning
of chest pain due to diabetic neuropathic changes.
Recommended Tests
ECG (Electrocardiography), Treadmill Test, Echocardiography
and coronary angiography.
Prevention
Diabetes Control, cholesterol control and weight control
and maintenance of normal blood pressure goes a long
way in preventing heart disease.
