In this ET Now segment, Shreehas Tambe discussed Biocon’s approach to sequencing its semaglutide market entry globally and in India, and the rationale behind its out-licensing agreement with Ajanta Pharma.

“The GLP-1 peptide is a very strategic product portfolio for us. We are present in semaglutide globally, and we look to bring that product to several patients including those in India as well. We will not be having a commercial team to front-end that in India, but we are working with partners globally and in India as well,” Tambe said.

On timing: “This is something that we’ve never seen as a sprint. We see this as a marathon. We’ve been in insulins for over 25 years, and we intend to be in the peptide space for a long time as well.”

On the Ajanta Pharma tie-up: “There are several other markets where we believe the best way to reach customers, patients, is through strong regional partners. Ajanta is one of them. Shared success has been one of our pillars of growth.”
