Biocon Ltd. is entering a new chapter under Shreehas Tambe, who will take over as chief executive officer and managing director on April 1, following the full integration of its biologics and generics businesses into a single listed entity.

The leadership transition comes at a crucial moment for India’s largest biopharmaceutical company by revenue, as it seeks to move beyond a scale‑only playbook toward deeper participation across the global value chain in biosimilars, complex generics and peptides.

Tambe, a nearly three‑decade Biocon veteran, will be the first CEO to lead the unified platform after Biocon Biologics was folded into the parent company Biocon.

The integration has cleared the runway for execution. Over the past two years, Biocon absorbed Viatris’ biosimilars business, rationalised overlapping structures and expanded its commercial footprint across the US, Europe and emerging markets. With those milestones largely behind it, management says the focus now is squarely on re‑positioning the company.

“Our vision is to transform Biocon into a fully integrated global medicines company,” Tambe said in an interview to Moneycontrol on Friday. “In one sentence, the shift we are making is from cost leadership to capability leadership.”
