Reacting to the Union Budget 2026-27 on ET Now, Shreehas Tambe, CEO & Managing Director of Biocon Biologics, welcomed the government’s newly announced “Biopharma SHAKTI” scheme — a Rs 10,000 crore initiative to boost domestic biologics and biosimilars manufacturing.

“For the biopharma industry, clearly there are lots of positives. Project SHAKTI comes in as a shot in the arm. It’s a very thoughtful program — even the acronym is very thought out: ‘BioPharma Strategy for Healthcare through Knowledge, Technology and Innovation,'” Tambe said.

On the scale of the opportunity: “There is over 270-odd billion dollars of patented drugs that are losing exclusivity. But you can’t really partake in that opportunity if you do not have the impetus to fuel innovation and to build global scale to address it. Specifically for Biocon, we see this as a validation of what we’ve been saying.”
